The Month of Love

Valentine's Day 1978

The month of February always makes me think of this photograph that was taken in 1978. I was only 5 years old, sitting on my daddy’s lap, posing for our hometown newspaper. I am an only child and was always a daddy’s girl! He was my world. He passed away almost 9 years ago and I still feel an emptiness. I think time helps heal but it never really goes away when you love someone so much. After high school graduation, I moved to a city 3 ½ hours away from my hometown and talked to my parents every single day. It didn’t matter where I traveled to in the world…New York, Paris, Rome…I always called my mom and dad. We were that close. In fact, I still catch myself wanting to call my Dad while watching a football game or if something funny happened throughout the day! Instead, I just look up and smile because I know he is with me always! I feel so lucky to have had such a wonderful father to look up to. I just wish he could have been here to meet my husband. He so would have loved him! I cherish all of the memories about him including this one in 1978! Today, I am so blessed to have my mom still here and she is honestly my best friend. She has helped me through so many life struggles over the years and has been my cheerleader in life as well. This Valentine’s Day, I am sending my mom something special from The Hugs Shop, of course. When I first opened thehugsshop.com, she immediately agreed that I am doing what I love! I have combined my love for fashion and giving back to non-profits all at the same time. This February, when you shop for either yourself or someone you love please remember you are not only helping this woman business owner, you are helping those in need. A portion of every single sale goes to the local non-profit, Feed Evansville!

This Valentine’s Day whether you spend it with the love of your life, your girlfriends or your precious pets and if someone you love isn’t here, allow your heart to heal but also take the time to remember all of the special memories you were so lucky to have…that is what I intend to do!
